Apple announced the iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. It opens to a 7.6-inch inner display and folds to a 5.4-inch outer screen, with a titanium hinge and frame, the A20 Pro chip and two 48MP cameras. It comes in Star White and Night Sky.

Google announced the Pixel 11 Pro Fold on August 12, 2026, and it is the company's fourth-generation foldable. It has an 8-inch inner display, a 6.5-inch cover display, the Tensor G6 chip, 16GB of RAM and Android 17 with seven years of updates.

In the UK the 256GB model costs £1,489. Google says the phone weighs 10% less than its predecessor and is 1 mm thinner, and it keeps an IP68 water and dust rating, with a new gearless hinge, brighter displays and a 48MP main camera.

Strengths: the lowest starting price, the longest software promise, IP68 protection and Google's software features.

Drawbacks: Google raised the price by $100 this year. Droid-Life's review calls it good hardware that is starting to feel dated, and it criticises the camera system for not being a true Pro camera at nearly $2,000.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: the hardware leader

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra on July 22, 2026, in London, and it went on sale August 7. It has an 8-inch inner display, a 6.5-inch cover screen, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy and a 5,000 mAh battery. Its rear cameras are a 200MP wide, a 50MP ultra-wide and a 10MP 3x telephoto.

In the UK it starts at £1,899, and in Australia at AU$2,999. Samsung has raised the price by $100 for the third year running, but retailers have already discounted it, with Amazon listing the 256GB model at $1,799.99 in one review.

Drawbacks: the highest starting price of the three, and another $100 increase. If cost matters, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 starts at $1,899.
